Based in the capital of Germany, home of different cultures, languages, delicious food, wonderful gardens, great music and art, eco-friendly people, amazing parties and much more, YaBerlin represents the city where everyone can find their own space without stepping in others interests.
YaBerlin is an Environmentally Friendly Label founded by the designer Yanina Grunewald. Her grandparents escaped from Germany to South America just before the Second War World started. She was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina, where she graduated in Textile Design from the University of Buenos Aires (UBA), Argentina in 2007. In 2009 she went traveling around the globe for about 1 year and decided to stay in Berlin after visiting the city several times and falling deeply in love with it.
We loved YaBerlin’s fresh design feeling so much we are now honoured to present YaBerlin designs on teeshirts, hoodies and more in our indieBerlin Online Store!
Noel Maurice talked to the Argentinian-born, Berlin-based designer for indieRepublik.

Yanina: Buenos Aires, Argentina. Moved to Berlin in 2010.
Noel Maurice: What did you do before you became a designer?
Yanina: I draw since I can remember and I studied textile design and finished when I was 24 years old. So before I was a designer I was in High School.

Yanina: I am a multi passionate person, I like challenge and adventure. I love learning about other people’s lives and experiences. I am in constant self-improvement.

Yanina: I am motivated and detail oriented. YaBerlin is about my passion for this city where I discovered myself and I fall in love with it every summer.
Noel Maurice: Where do you find your greatest inspirations?
Noel Maurice: Is there something you’d like to achieve with your art?
Yanina: I would love to invest energy and creativity to be directly involved in helping others.
Noel Maurice: Tell us about where your designs have been used before / or what design work etc you’ve been engaged in up til now?
Yanina: I worked as a textile designer for several years in my home town, and I was travelling for a while after. I founded YaBerlin in 2018 and I printed my designs in textiles like Tshirts, gym-bags and on stationery articles. This year I also studied UX/UI design to understand about the needs of people better.
Noel Maurice: Are you optimistic about 2021 / the future?
Yanina: I am a mother so I need to be optimistic. I hope we finally learn that being involved as community is the only way we are going to live a wonderful life.
Noel Maurice: What are your hopes and dreams – for you, for everyone, for the world….?
Yanina: Education for all children. Conscious consumerism. Less plastic. Less meat production.

Yanina: Green is my fav color but I actually change my mind a lot.
Noel Maurice: How do you find Berlin as a place to live?
Yanina: This is my fav city in the world and I know a lot of cities
Noel Maurice: Why do you live there?
Because I am Latin and a woman and here I feel I can be myself without suffering prejudice.
