Folk legend-in-the-making Fabian Holland live in Berlin 14th March

by | indieBerlin

Fabian Holland is a UK singer-songwriter who sits happily in the folk/roots category. With a voice that aches with the telling, a guitar style that speaks of early influences including Sonny Boy Williamson and Son House while taking the conversation a step further, he’s definitely one to watch: Acoustic Magazine called him “The future pulse of folk music” and we can’t help but agree.

After studying music in the UK he moved to the mountains of the Abruzzo Region, Italy, where he spent four years developing his musical style, busking, gigging and composing. Less than 18 months after his widely applauded self-titled debut CD in 2013, Fabian came back with A Day Like Tomorrow, an album of nine compelling original songs that showcase his distinctive voice and impressive guitar playing. Unusual teamwork is on display with the introduction of edgy drums, percussion and vocals from the acclaimed Fred Claridge, nurturing a rich, powerful sound and a rare pairing on the roots scene.

Lyrically evocative, sometimes moody and melancholic, Holland’s unadorned music has a flip side of songs of upbeat, wry humour but always acutely observed – songs of people and places, strangers and kin, human frailties and foibles – sensitive sonic snapshots producing perfect visual imagery, by turns unsettling and reassuring.

Catch Fabian Holland live at the Moabit Barprojekt Saturday 14th March. Free entry, a hat will be passed around.
