The final burlesque lesson – in which Chloe gets rather sticky

by | Burlesque

It’s with a heavy heart that myself and the girls say goodbye to the “Secrets of Burlesque” course as we have now completed our final week.

The last session was taken by Germany’s Queen of Burlesque Marlene Von Steenvag who guided us through story development.

“You can’t just take your clothes off, we are not strippers, we are performers, there needs to be a reason!”

Leading us through numerous acting warm-ups and exercises we were taught to embrace the performing space and take root and energy from the stage.

All this whilst being filmed by AirBB!! We then moved on to prop work to help us develop storylines. I opted for the giant sparkling strawberry, because, well, why wouldn’t you? I used it to tell the tale of a cheeky pinup picnic discovery, in which I got rather sticky.

Others had feather fans, riding crops and parasols. Each performing their own story. It is a truth universally acknowledged that working with children, animals and feather fans will be egregiously challenging.

Nonetheless, we powered on, under the watchful eye of Marlene who was often giving constructive criticism and words of confidence.

We laughed, we messed up, we drank champagne. Overall a joyous experience had by all.

I would like to thankย Berlin Burlesque Academy, Marlene Von Steenvag and Arden Delacour for such a wonderful 4 weeks and for giving me such a strong foundation and belief for continuing into the rhinestone laden world of Burlesque.

Next up, the BBA Opening Ceremony Party on September 10th, see you there. Xoxo
