Old Fleas, Berlin’s only vintage market, is turning one year old…everyone’s invited to celebrate at the fabulous Ballhaus Berlin in Mitte – shop till you drop, cram yummy homemade food in your mouth, take a free dance class or just hang out – it’s all going on at the Old Fleas this Sunday 14th May!
Set up and run by burlesque dancer Honey Lulu and actress Lucia Vicente, the fair has been going for a year now. Honey explained how when she lived in London there were vintage markets all over the shop but when she came here there was nothing similar.
The market is meant to be about fun
Lucia’s very adamant that it’s about vintage fashion but modern values – far from being stuck in the past, they just love the old styles, but in a modern setting…and the market is meant to be about fun. That’s why at 2pm every fair, there’s a surprise dance class put on by a different dance teacher every time. It’s all about mixing up the burlesque, swing and vintage scenes and hanging out and having a good time.
And rather than a bunch of tatty cast-offs, the clothes on offer are in the main high-quality pieces from talented local designers – bombshell wiggle dresses, snappy fedoras, feathered fascinators, and bright bakelite bangles. And of course there’s also cocktails at the bar, a photo studio, and a DJ spinning some hot jazz…
THE NITTY GRITTY:
There’s a well stocked bar, changing rooms, a kids´corner, powder room and the best vintage clothing in town!
It’s open from 11am to 5pm, entry is only 2 € on the door, and it includes a taster class at 2PM.
