Bright Loft is a new song by the band Mosaiqs. It’s on the surface lighthearted, a classic composition of verse and chorus in a classic indy style. There’s something almost retro about the song with a rolling bassline, higher-pitched chords and a quick riff played entirely clean. Even the drums themselves are splashy on the cymbals to give it a lighter beat that mixes well with clear and easy to understand lyrics, almost as though the song itself is taken straight out of a warm summer day. Even the songs have 60’s/70’s remnants with pop images of tangerines and ‘apricot underwear’.

Indeed that is the surface impression Bright Loft wishes to present – the video starts with a model on a sun lounger by a swimming pool reading a magazine with a face on the cover that matches hers in an illusory effect. The lyrics match the action of the video, ‘she’s in the magazines’ and a waiter ‘serves her tangerines’. With the up-tempo style of the music, we’re at the beginning introduced to a kind of idyllic paradise.

She has flashbacks of being groped, she’s alone with ‘no one to call’
All of this though is where the irony of the song comes into the play. As the song proceeds the reality of this girl comes across more tragic and the happy-go-lucky feeling the song is giving us makes the message of the lyrics almost more sinister. She travels at night to a busy nightclub, everyone having fun, the song as bright as ever. But the girl herself is haunted by a bad experience in the form of a creepy producer with loose hands. Still scarred by the trauma she has flashbacks of being groped, she’s alone with ‘no one to call’.

They’re a band definitely on the way and up and should be listened to by as many people as possible.
However, the song maintaining its catchiness and positivity expresses how the girl fights back and ‘gives him a hit’ and reclaims herself by the end of the song. Just as Bright Loft finishes on its catchy chorus and there’s resolution to the song. Mosaiqs are a confident band that want to tell stories while providing unoffensive and addictive indy style music. They’re a band definitely on the way and up and should be listened to by as many people as possible.
