California Dreamin’ – Deeper In The Dream by Jameson Burt

by | indieBerlin

Deeper In The Dream, featuring Malik Hutton, is the latest single from California-based singer-songwriter Jameson Burt.
Spending his time between LA and Milan, and signed by Auditorius / Sony BMG in Berlin in 2014, Burt’s songs often have a sun-influenced feel. His last single, ‘Don’t Worry’, released back in March, certainly followed this trend, and was his first new music since 2015’s Carnivore EP.

His rock credentials are certified by his years spent as frontman for LA alt-rockers Mount Holly, and Deeper In The Dream shows that these have been retained, despite having since parted ways with the group.

A floating guitar intro is quickly joined by growling bassline, followed by the songwriter’s soulful vocals. Burt’s lyrics are smart and his vocal range impressive, a testament to his time already spent both writing songs for other artists and performing his own across Europe and the US as an opener for Rival Sons among others. His voice is at times Bryan Adams, at others closer to Maroon 5’s Adam Levine, with the falsetto chorus contrasted by the more gravelly verses.

The song’s breakdown is rapped by Hutton, who also appears in the video alongside Burt, in which shots of the artists against a nighttime cityscape add to the atmospheric feel.

Once you’ve fallen in love with this song, you don’t have long to wait for the forthcoming album, Tropics, following this winter.
