Berlin Music Video Awards 2018 – submissions still open!

by | indieBerlin

Launched in 2013 by Aviel Silook, the Berlin Music Video Awards is an annual independent
festival that has already made its name in the filmmaking/music scene. Anyone can participate – budget, label and name are not relevant – the BMVAs are about quality, originality and diversity.

The festival provides a platform for talented filmmakers, supporting both unknown and famous artists, and has turned into a primary networking event for the video and music industries in Europe.
Fragments of an odd journey through adolescent angst bathed in underlying sexual tension
The Berlin Music Video Awards are continuously developing and growing. In 2013 they had 1200 visitors, by 2015 it was 4500 guests, and now it’s closer to 8,000. As the awards gained in popularity and visibility, of course the prize money went up, with the winner currently walking away with 3,000€.

Are you a video artist, band with a video or music video producer? There’s still time – submissions are being accepted this year until March 15th, and all genres are welcome.
At this stage, the rules get rewritten
One of the videos in the running this year is The End by the band KCPK, from director Loic Andrieu – and it’s the first time probably ever that I was completely captivated by a music video from beginning to end – you have to watch it….

In the dark but stunning video, the French director Loic Andrieu portrays “the end of innocence”:

“For this, I wanted to catch fragments of an odd journey through adolescent angst bathed in underlying sexual tension—a puzzle of senses and feelings flowing with gradual force, and oppressively constant,” Andrieu has explained to NOWNESS, who are premiering the video. “It’s a coming of age snapshot. At this stage, the rules get rewritten. Your eyes open to what lies beyond family and school. It is the first time you’re seeing yourself in the world, but emotional reactions overwhelm your ability to understand and cope. This is the end of innocence.”
