Blue Demon will be bringing their version of Hollywood to tonight’s female-fronted edition of Basement Bash. Coming straight from Copenhagen, this will be their first time playing outside of Denmark, and they are just excited as we are, to take the stage and introduce themselves to the Berlin audience. Catch them tonight at Marie Antoinette, doors open at 20:30.
indieberlin: Tell us a little bit about your musical background
Bluedemon: Both of us (Jakob and Maria) have solo careers behind us, but we played together since we were kids. We are brother and sister and grew up together. Both of us started quite early to play music. Jakob has fronted various bands and Maria has released 4 solo albums as Maria Viskonti.
indieberlin: How did you come up with the name Blue Demon?
Bluedemon: Jakob found a small drawing of the Mexican wrestler Blue Demon. We found it cool and would have liked to use it as a logo. We contacted the artist, but we couldn’t afford to use it. We stuck to the name though as it fitted us with both the blues/melancholy and the demonic temptation and forbidden fruit.
indieberlin: How did you get together as a band?
Bluedemon: It seemed natural when Jakob started making many demos alone in his home studio that Maria should do the vocals. It’s our first project together. We gathered some of our good friends to join us live.
indieberlin: How does the songwriting process work for you / in your band?
Bluedemon: Jakob makes a lot of rough sketches with beats and some riffs. Then Maria choses some of them and start making some lyrics and vocals. When it has a little more shape we take them to the rest of the band and let them come up with ideas and let them find their own role.
indieberlin: What was the last concert you went to?
Bluedemon: We went to see B.R.M.C. in Copenhagen. It was great but not loud enough!
indieberlin: How do you feel about covering a song?
Bluedemon: We haven’t done that yet, but we’re open to it.
indieberlin: How do you think the audience in Berlin is different to the audience in Copenhagen?
Bluedemon: We really look forward to playing our first gig outside of Denmark! We think the Berlinaudience may be more curious and open. They may be harder to impress and we don’t have any friends in Berlin (yet!) but we really look forward to the new crowd.
indieberlin: With whom would you never share the stage with?
Bluedemon: Nickelback
