Chilean Duo The Holydrug Couple at Urban Spree 27.11 – win tickets here!

by | indieBerlin

In a year that has been seriously spoiling psych music fans with new albums and a Berlin fall season that has been seriously quenching our thirst for shows, here comes yet another winner: Chilean duo, The Holydrug Couple will be playing Urban Spree on Tuesday, November 27th promoting their newest album, Hyper Super Mega.

This new venture for old friends Ives Sepúlveda Minho and Manuel Parra is meant to be the best sounding yet, with a higher budget and production value and heaps of new equipment that seriously expanded the band’s sound palette. Hyper Super Megais much closer to a classic pop album of the 60’s or 70’s than their past more psychedelic, rougher-around-the-edges work, which has been compared to smooth, sexy sounds such as a Serge Gainsbourg album or 70’s film score. But the pop-ier sound isn’t a bad thing, in fact 60’s pop was definitely a heavy inspiration for the band this time around and translated to a tighter sound that is the product of their culminated learning experience in their decade as a band.
Check out the album’s newest video here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bfljC8e3v0A&fbclid=IwAR2F9rOE1kwvkMEBPBdDh7qAI-bKOj5T3oSQEM9FpuM0taieciD2aemSdnk , the track “Waterfalls” is actually a perfect example of Holydrug Couple’s wider sound palette, featuring higher-end mics and synthesizers.
A sunny evening of sensual psych pop is impending! Apparently they have smoke machines too.
