Chvrches are coming to Berlin – and you could win tickets to be there!

Successful and popular music bands might not be the first thing you think of when you picture the city of Glasgow – the mind often goes to things like men in kilts or aggressive football culture first – but that’s an oversight.
Numerous famous bands have come out of the Scottish city (Travis, The Fratellis, Simple Minds, Franz Ferdinand…), and now there is another huge name to add to that list: Chvrches.

After exploding onto the music scene in 2012 with their song “Lies”, the band released their debut studio album “The Bones of What You Believe” in 2013 and have gone from strength to strength ever since. Their synthpop music style is simultaneously uplifting and thought-provoking, with the lyrics from vocalist Lauren Mayberry lingering in your mind for hours afterwards.

“If it’s going to be more pop it should be more aggressively pop – there’s no doing things in half measures.”

Speaking about their latest album, “Love is Dead”, Mayberry has said, “If it’s going to be more pop it should be more aggressively pop – there’s no doing things in half measures.” And, indeed, this album cannot be accused of doing anything by halves! As well as pouring the musical genius of the three band members into the album, David Stewart from Eurythmics and Matt Berninger from The National were both pulled in to collaborate, and Grammy-award-winning music producer Greg Kurstin produced the album; clearly, all the stops were pulled out for this record!

Thankfully, the hard work paid off, and “aggressive pop” is perhaps the perfect way to sum up this band. Their music is laden with electro-synth sounds, pop music hooks, and Mayberry’s feminine vocals, which combine to make some unforgettable songs. If you’re looking for something more (more intelligent, more talented, more addictive) than the usual mainstream pop songs being churned out, Chvrches and their new album are definitely worth a listen.

Luckily for you – and for us – you can experience this band live, right here in Berlin! Chvrches will be performing at the Tempodrom on 7th November 2018.
