Dive into our chat with La Laguna (Basement Bash 20.4)

by | indieBerlin

La Laguna are in full effect at Basement Bash this Saturday 20th April at Urban Spree – together with Drahla and Dream Boogie! Find out all about the glittering jellyfish-loving threesome below – and write to win(at)indieberlin.de to win some of our free pairs of tickets!

I’ll let the band introduce themselves since they do it so beautifully:

“Have you ever wondered what glitter tastes like? When Neeraja, Bente and Domenica met on the hedonistic streets of Berlin they had an idea. The idea to make something out of nothing. The idea to change the Grey Winter into a blossoming Jelly-fish garden.

Domenicas wild bass-lines, Bentes ninja strokes, glued together with Neerajas fierce vocals made for a potion hard to ignore. Finally forming the bed rock of rythm, came Oskar, the wolf from the North.

We are La Laguna.”

indieberlin: Tell us a little bit about your musical background

La Laguna: We all come from different places and this influences the sounds we mix together. Domenica bass playing is uniquely melodic and Neeraja has ears that are trained differently from ours. Bente has an inner grunge influence and Oscar has sleek sense of rhythm with a background in production. This makes us a pretty well oiled machine.

indieberlin: How did you come up with the name La Laguna?

La Laguna: We were trying to come up with a name for a month and then Domenica just said the word โ€œLa Lagunaโ€ and it clicked.

indieberlin: Tell us something about yourself that you always wanted to say but no one has ever asked you yet.

La Laguna: We all taste like glitter.

indieberlin: How does the songwriting process work for you / in your band?

La Laguna: Sometimes one of us gets a song that theyยดre working on and we all build it and jam it out. Some of our more powerful work; however, is when we start together from scratch.

indieberlin: If your music was a movie, which genre would it be in?

La Laguna: A romantic comedy with a psychedelic twist, like Mean Girls on Acid.

indieberlin: Tell us a secret about yourself.

La Laguna: Oskar has a flower on his chest.

indieberlin: What was the nicest compliment you once got?

La Laguna: When we played our first show, one person form the audience told us that watching us was like being part of a whole experience and not just watching a gig.

indieberlin: In ten years you look back to today and think:

La Laguna: We took too long to finish the fucking interview questionnaire when we could have had a cigarette in the sun <3 ๐Ÿ˜‰
