Over the last 30 years Adrian Sherwood has worked with artists from Primal Scream to Lee Scratch Perry to Sinéad O’Connor; founded or co-founded six record labels and mixed and produced diverse music encompassing the sounds of dub, reggae, hip-hop and punk.
Founding father of the dub label: On-U Sound, Sherwood is on his 60th birthday tour. Born into the London reggae scene of the mid-70’s, he was already working with top artists from his mid-teens and co-founded his first label Carib Gems aged 17. Over the next few years, he produced for Prince Far I and mixed and produced many dub classics on Hitrun Records.
In 1980 he formed his most famous label: On-U Sound
In 1980 he formed his most famous label: On-U Sound, with a prolific output of music by the likes of New Age Steppers, Creation Rebel and Dub Syndicate to name but a few. With a move to New York, he formed the industrial hip-hop outfit Tackhead in ‘85.
Moving into industrial music through the 80’s he could also keep to his reggae and dub roots by producing on multiple labels. Through the 90’s, although slowing down his output, he worked with some of the aforementioned top singers and bands and also produced works with Jamaican artists Bim Sherman and Junior Delgado on experimental albums.
he started performing his ‘Dub Live Show’ all over the world, seeing him play multiple tracks through a 24-channel mixer along-side live performers
In 2003 he released his first solo album: ‘Never Trust a Hippy?’, which added a new layer to his reputation; and alongside this he started performing his ‘Dub Live Show’ all over the world, seeing him play multiple tracks through a 24-channel mixer along-side live performers.
There are too many works and collaborations to mention here, but most recently he released the album ‘Becoming a Cliché/Dub Cliché’ (2015) and is once again mixing for Tackhead.
‘At the Controls with Adrian Sherwood’ will well and truly be an experience ‘under the control’ of one of the most experienced and prolific music producers ever.
