The French musical duo, Ibeyi, will be back in Berlin on October 28th at Kessel Haus for another sold-out show, but don’t fret, IndieBerlin’s got your back with a free pair of raffle tickets.
The sisters versed of the past,their relationship to each other and the elements over electro-soul, trip-hop beats and traditional persuasion, a nod to their late Cuban father, the Buena Vista Social Club conguero Miguel “Angá” Díaz.
Lisa’s piano melodies and jazz-inflected vocals harmonize perfectly with Naomi, who provokes spine undulation with the rhythm of the Cajun and batá drums. It is this cultural milleu that informs Ibeyi’s music with a sense of spirituality which has the capacity to sieve it’s way into your subconscious evoking memories of the time when society was more communal and devoted.

On Ash” (2017), their second studio album, the group continues to pay tribute to their roots, but this time around, their sound manifests futuristic expression. From the fresh auto-tune on the track “Away, Away” to the #MeToo conscious “No Man Is Big Enough For My Arms”, Ibeyi offering spans lyrics tracing is a brilliant combination of the timeless and the modern.
