Laurel Sprengelmeyer goes by the pseudonym Little Scream. The Canadian based Iowan released her second album entitled Cult Following on May 6. Michelberger Hotel is hosting her Berlin concert this coming Tuesday (28 June).
The name of her album relates to her growing up a Jehovah’s Witness. It also refers to relationships which sometimes become ‘culty’: “anything you put your faith in, in an unquestioning way, giving yourself ideas about what they’re supposed to be vs what is”.
It features appearances by Sufjan Stevens, Sharon Van Etten and Owen Pallett among others. The first single off her album, “Love as a Weapon”, has two voices combining harmoniously. The end result is a disco track straight out of the seventies.
