Named after a strange, old fashioned polish Eau de Cologne, Parfum Brutal respectively hails from Berlin, Dortmund and Cologne. Having already released two albums, Into Earth is their third album. According to the band’s words the album is about growth, falling down to Earth and re-emergence.
Very indie-licious with guitar riffs that build up to a soaring ending
The album opens with the single What We Are, where in an accompanying video the faces of the musicians flicker over the bodies of their parents. The song is about childhood feelings, and sounds very indie-licious with guitar riffs that build up to a soaring ending. Kassandra Papk’s vocals are strong and this is shown throughout the whole album.
The Rain closes off on a very jazzy touch with trumpets accompanying Kassandra’s voice through the end. But the song also has violins which gives it a slightly Irish folk feel.
A childlike subtle side to the band
I Move starts off on a mellow tone. Strings and orchestrated pieces can be heared in the rendering of the recording.
Migrating Bird is another track that follows the subtler, mellower side of Parfum Brutal, with the difference being the haunting guitars.
8va Xylophone eases this song through, bringing a childlike subtle side to the band. Note also be given that this is the only instrumental piece of the lot.
A slow pace which brings focus to the little yet powerful things
Let Me Sleep brings a particular emphasis on Kassandra’s echoing voice serenading through a slow pace which brings focus to the little yet powerful things such as guitars, drums, organ and sampled beats.
A well- packaged, versatile album…an abundance of musical capabilities
A Spanish Guitar is what brings the album to a close. And Into Earth nicely ends a well- packaged, versatile album which firstly shows that they have explored and experimented with a lot of different sounds, and secondly that possesses an abundance of musical capabilities.
