Simon Mitlid releases Competition: “it’s an indie drama where nothing happens”

by | indieBerlin

Simen Mitlid is a norwegian indie folk artist from a really small town, called Os. He now lives in Oslo, where he got his small studio space. Simen have earlier released two EPs, and is later this year releasing his debut album, on his own label, Koke Plate.
April 28, he´s releasing the single “Competition” as the last single before album.

indieBerlin: Tell us a little bit about your musical background

Simen Mitlid: Started my musical career in a unknown punk band in my hometown. We were called Sjøhestfamilien and only played a couple of shows. After high school I started this singer/songwriter-project when all my band members started doing more important stuff. I´ve now released two EPs and a bunch of singles on the indie label Koke Plate. Releasing my first full album this year.

indieBerlin: How does the songwriting process work for you?

Simen Mitlid: It takes a really long time for me to finish a song. The writing usually starts with a vague idea or a melody, but from that first idea, its a long road. The song usually comes together while I´m recording demos and arranging over that first melody. And when the song is done that first “idea” is often removed from the final track.

My music is like eating leftovers…an indie drama, with no plot and nothing happens.

indieBerlin: If you had to describe your music to a deaf person, what would you say?

Simen Mitlid: Its like eating leftovers.

indieBerlin:  If your music was a movie, which genre would it be in?

Simen Mitlid: Maybe an indie drama, with no plot and nothing happens.

indieBerlin: Where do you get your inspiration from?

Simen Mitlid: Friends, family and TV-shows, my echo chamber.

indieBerlin: What was the last concert you went to?

Simen Mitlid: Shame (UK) during a festival in Oslo. One of the best concerts I´ve seen this year.

indieBerlin: With whom would you never share the stage with?

Simen Mitlid: Stavangerkammeratene.

indieBerlin: Do you dream in colour or black and white?

Simen Mitlid: In colour.

indieBerlin: Do you want to greet somebody ;-))?

Simen Mitlid: My producer, Tyler Johnson.
