Win tickets to Henry Wu presenting Kamaal Williams in Gretchen on the 12th of January

by | indieBerlin

Who got the jazz? Wu got the jazz and Henry Wu is back. With his first song, ‘Catch The Loop’, released under the new moniker of his actual name, Kamaal Williams certainly does.

The release of this new track is the first glimpse into what Williams has in store for us with his new, intriguing project.

Having been releasing electronic music under the name Henry Wu for the last few years, Kamaal Williams has proven to be a prolific and exciting musician. Hailing from London, Kamaal Williams was also cofounder of the jazz duo Yussef Kamal who received a mass of worldwide attention before they came to an early end last year. Their album, ‘Black Focus’, was an eclectic mix of jazz infused with layers of hip hop, funk and house beats that received high praise all around the world.

The new track from Kamaal Williams is a great start to life after Yussef Kamaal. It is full of tremendously speedy funk over an underlying jazzy beat. With sounds similar to highly acclaimed US artists like Thundercat, Kamasi Washington and Flying Lotus, Kamaal Williams is bringing a well studied sound with a strong confidence this side of the Atlantic.
