The British singer Etta Bond is known for her straight-talking lyrics, shaved head, and soulful vocals.
The Guardian has nicknamed her the โskinhead soul princessโ and this moniker seems apt as she is quickly becoming something like royalty on the music scene.
If you havenโt heard any of her own music (obviously you have, but letโs pretend for a moment), then you will recognise her distinct voice from the multitude of collaborations sheโs done, and the numerous songs on which she has featured. Sheโs laid down tracks with some huge names like Wretch 32, Labrinth, Plan B, Skepta, and Tom Misch.
Despite the number of famous pals she might have, donโt that fool you into thinking that this woman canโt make it on her own strengths. Her voice alone would be more than enough to make her stand out from the crowd, but sheโs got a whole lot more than just an exceptional sound.
Etta isnโt afraid to say what she is thinking, and sheโs renowned for her honest lyrics, often with strong feminist overtones
Both her songs and her music videos explore what it is to be feminine, female sensuality, and sexuality. She has stated before that she thinks itโs important to share how we feel about things, since โWe are conditioned into believing itโs better that we hide our feelings from the world, that feelings are a weakness.โ And Etta doesnโt seem to be afraid to say exactly what sheโs thinking as she brings up everything from love to sexual frustration: โHow many times have you pictured me naked?/ Cause I call you a friend but I know that Iโm fakin/ Swear sometimes I look at you/ Things I wanna do, friends just donโt doโ.
We canโt think of a better city for this incredible lady to come and sing her heart out about sexuality and feminism than Berlin! She’s making her way here as part of her European tour on 27th March 2019.
