D4vd is pronounced David. To get that out of the way. And D4vd is the 17 year old from Houston, Texas who’s jumped from nowhere to having 39 million plays of his debut indie single, Romantic Homicide, on a range of platforms.
The video, inspired by his love for anime and film noir, was directed by the young man himself, and the song, which is all about disappointed love, manages to combine R&B, indie pop and again those gothic influences.
D4vd grew a fanbase first on Fortnite, before blowing up on Tiktok too – gathering millions of views of the song, even before it had been officially released.
D4vd has come to work with producers that he impressed with recordings of his music that he’d made only with an iPhone and a whole lot of talent (see below for the tiktok video where he shows just how he made the hit happen). From there D4vd, an avid player of video games, spread his song and established and grew a fanbase first on Fortnite, before blowing up on Tiktok too – gathering millions of views of the song, even before it had been officially released.
Any way that an indie artist can get themselves heard above the white noise, and beat the music industry at its own game, is music to our ears (sorry about the bad pun, sometimes it happens :)). Getting big via platforms like Fortnite and Tiktok could just turn out to be the new way to go.
