Tia Bazda lets the twenties roar

by | Music, New Music

Canadian singer Tia Brazda’s jazz-pop gems and bold style have made a sparkling impression from Montreux to Montreal, paying homage to the golden era while remaining daringly modern.

On International Jazz Day, April 30 at B-Flat Berlin, Tia Brazda presents a sneak preview of When I Get Low (her new album, out May 27), a delightful package of standards but with that sparkling Brazda approach.

a walking catalog of 20th century jazz styles

Her music has been described as “a hip pastiche”, “a walking catalog of 20th century jazz styles”, and “as good as it gets” in swing jazz, with No Depression magazine saying she is “truly an original”. Don’t miss this speakeasy celebration on April 30!

One of Canada’s most recognizable voices in jazz, TIA BRAZDA delves into the past with her new album WHEN I GET LOW. It’s officially out May 27th on Flatcar Records, with European and Canadian dates in support and finds Brazda rediscovering songs largely from the 1930s, in the Great American songbook.

dreamy and nostalgic with a dash of grit

Thematically, the album is at first dystopian but ultimately uplifting; dreamy and nostalgic with a dash of grit. Brazda’s effortless vocals are supported by a cast of players from her live touring band that features Grammy and JUNO award winners.

The entire album was recorded remotely, with all the players tracking their parts in home studios, ranging from Northern Ontario to New Orleans, due to the pandemic.
