Single review: ‘Bizarre’ by Digalaux – Swedish-French electro to kickstart your 2018

by | indieBerlin

If you came here because you read the words โ€˜West Coast trioโ€™, you may be in the wrong place.ย Far from the hip-hop homeland of California, Digalaux are a party-loving group kicking up a storm over on the west Swedish coast – Gothenburg to be precise.

Having released their debut album โ€˜Firstโ€™ just last year, the Swedish-French trio have landed loudly in 2018, with their latest single โ€˜Bizarreโ€™ dropping at the end of January.

A disco beat gets things going, preparing the ground for the heavy synth bass hook to kick in seconds later.

โ€˜Bizarreโ€™ already sounds like a change of gear for the group, who started touring their brand of psychedelic electro back in 2013-14. There are clear aspirations to emanate the heaviness of the magisterial French electro outfit Justice here, whose influence can be heard in the unashamed raucousness.

A disco beat gets things going, preparing the ground for the heavy synth bass hook to kick in seconds later. The robot-effect vocals throughout are a daring nod to their nineties heroes, and itโ€™s no surprise that theyโ€™ve stuck with the mastering of Antoine “Chab” Chabert, who has worked with Daft Punk among many others in the past.

Clocking in at just under four minutes, this track is a dirty, rolling party anthem, just in time to accompany our post-Christmas exit from hibernation and soundtrack our face-first sprint into the year ahead. Bring it on!
