Alternative Christmas? Here’s the soundtrack…

by | indieBerlin

If you’re a bit bah humbug this month and planning for an alternative Christmas, we’ve found the soundtrack for you. This casette tape release from Berlin DIY label Twaague features a bunch of Berlin indie guitar bands singing songs about…yes, you guessed it. Christmas. Well they generally seem to be anyway. A noble attempt to capture a funhouse mirror reflection of this month of packed shops, consumption gone mad, presents and Father Christmases and…you know, all that. Featuring a load of bands including Milwakie, Mincer Ray and Man Behind Tree, it’s well worth the 5 euro price tag. And hey, spread a little Christmas cheer in the occasionally glum indie musician world!
“…teary-eyed and alone, surrounded by empty bottles of Joy and next to an overflowing ashtray …”
Or, as they put it themselves: “Ten guitar driven ditties that fit every Christmas occasion: your Mother crying for a grandchild, Grandpa blaming your new “terrorist” boyfriend for 9/11, or Uncle Jerry drunkenly punching the family dog – it’s the perfect Christmas soundtrack! Better yet, try it teary-eyed and alone, surrounded by empty bottles of Joy and next to an overflowing ashtray that will always remind you of when you caught your ex-wife cheating on you in Cancun…”
