PYRAME is the brainchild of David Naville, a traveller and cosmic poet stranded in Berlin for two years. He found shelter in a music studio where he lived in and worked together with Berlin producer Matthieu Brismontier from MOWD.
The result is more than exciting and almost ready to show to the world, as they told us. Being two absolute perfectionists, they didn’t feel comfortable yet to see us posting a full song of PYRAME here. But we didn’t let them go without anything to share and these 35 seconds of the planned first single with the working title „Where Are We Now?” is amazingly promising already. A sound so cool and yet so intimately warm that one would easily expect Ryan Gosling to DRIVE by and exclaim: “Chapeau, mon ami”

indieBerlin: Tell us a little bit about your musical background?
David: My first ever memory of music was ABBA, that my mother used to play in loops. Although I enjoyed the music, I had other ideas in mind at that time – I was 5 – and got quickly seduced by more alternative choices, such as KISS and The Buggles.
I spent my teenage hood learning the piano, first, then the guitar, and played the bass in a pop-noise band in my home town for a couple of years. At that time, I could not stop listening to music – on tapes back then, and on a walk-man – listening to classic rock bands, newwave, hard rock, grunge…it was a great time.
After my studies in physics, I managed to keep playing the guitar regularly – mostly classical stuff – while working as a quantitative analyst and travelling the world for 15 years. Meanwhile I took quite a liking in the electronic sound of the ones like Fischerspooner, LCD Soundsystem or the Chemical Brotehrs. So after I left my job, I decided to focus more on music and my electro-pop/synth pop project PYRAME is now something I’m really keen to develop further.
indieBerlin: How did you come up with the name?
David: Pyrame was a middle name of my grandfather, and – not so coincidentally? – also a middle name of mine. In fact, Pyrame and Thysbe are two figures of the Greek Mythology, appearing in a tragic love story. I found it cool to revive and pay tribute to both ‘sources” for my music project.
indieBerlin: Where do you get your inspiration from?
David:As far as the music is concerned, I am particularly keen to spend time in the South of France, retired in an old house equipped with a piano and a guitar. This is a place with little distraction, and a lot of time to experiment, let my ideas go free, and compose.
When it comes to the lyrics, these come rather from observing and witnessing what is going on around me, in our society nowadays. Every song tells a story, which relates a particular observation or emotion. Mostly between human beings, but not only. More on this in the near future…
indieBerlin: What’s the most exciting thing you are enjoying besides creating music?
David: I really like airplanes, and all the physics that goes around it. I got my pilot licence a few years ago, and flying is really something I enjoy doing.
indieBerlin: If your music was a movie, which genre would it be in or what kind of movies are an inspiration to you?
David: I like many genres…: futuristic, melo-dramatic, western spaghetti movies. Some of my biggest aesthetic influences comes from my teenage-hood, to be honest: Kubrick, Coppola, Bertolucci, Lynch, Leone. More recently, Fincher and Nolan.
