Ever since the mid-1980s, Nick Cave has been associated with Berlin. During that period, the Australian musician, songwriter, author, screenwriter, composer and actor lived in Berlin for five years. Part of his stay has been immortalized in small-club concert sequences with his main band Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds in Wim Wenders’ film “Wings of Desire” (known in German as “Der Himmel über Berlin”).
Now Cave is the subject of “20,000 Days on Earth,” a one-of-a-kind film by British filmmakers Iain Forsyth and Jane Pollard that depicts a fictitious 24 hours in his life before and during the recording of his 2013 album “Push the Sky Away.” The 95-minute film, which premiered at last year’s Berlin International Film Festival in Panorama Dokumente section, is more than a bio-pic. It provides personal insight into Cave’s creative process and indie ethos, and more than one reviewer has remarked that the film potentially serves as inspiration for many types of creative people.
Mobile Kino, a roving micro-cinema that organizes officially sanctioned, fully legal public film screenings in mostly non-cinema spaces, brings the film this Sunday to highly appropriate venue Urban Spree, a major creative center in Berlin with artist’s studios, an art gallery and a live-music space.
