indieberlin: Tell us a little bit about your musical background.
GM Music: I’m GM Music from Wales in the UK. As a young adult, I studied classical and pop music before becoming immersed in the dance music scene. That eventually led to a deal with MJS Records to release ‘The Feeling’ which is a collaboration with American producer Denizen and London-based vocalist Calte Jones.
indieberlin: How did you come up with the name GM Music?
GM Music: My initials are ‘GM’ but I like that it could mean ‘Genetically Modified’, like GM crops or something.

indieberlin: How did you get together as a band?
GM Music: We got in touch through adverts that were placed online. The internet is a very useful tool for musicians, and it’s been great to find and work with people that I might otherwise have never met.
indieberlin: Tell us something about yourself that you always wanted to say but no one has ever asked you yet.
GM Music: In life, it’s important to walk away from toxic people.

indieberlin: How does the songwriting process work?
GM Music: I usually need to be relaxed and in a good frame of mind for ideas to flow. It can start with a lyric idea or by improvising melodies. The important thing is to find a starting point and then build from there – and don’t give up!
indieberlin: If you had to describe your music to a deaf person, what would you say?
GM Music: The music I make is electronic and soulful but with a clubby edge. I love dance music but also like pop melodies, so that informs a lot of what I do.
indieberlin: How do you feel about covering a song?
GM Music: Covering songs is fine – if it’s a great song and you put your own spin on it, why not?
indieberlin: How do you think the audience in Berlin is different to the audience elsewhere?
GM Music: Berlin crowds always seem to be up for a party and the nightlife is great here.

GM Music: No regrets.
