‘Greyzones [2nd Zone]’ is the latest single from Italian rock trio Hypergear.
Originally forming in 2013, the Milan-based three-piece have been through various line-up changes over the past five years. Eventually, songwriter and remaining founding member Sascha Giordano opted to join forces with two former members of fellow Italians The Lyvers and modern Hypergear was born.
Since May 2018, the group have had a number of single releases in the build up to completing their debut album. ‘Greyzones’ is the fifth Hypergear track to land, now available to hear on all good channels from this month on. The band gamely describe themselves as synth-rock and cite Muse as a key influence. While the British stadium rockers are clearly an inspiration, here, Hypergear sound more like the straight-up fuzz punk created by US bands like …And You Will Know Us by the Trail of Dead in the 1990s.

The second in a three-piece musical ‘suite’ (following last year’s single ‘Air [1st Zone]’), the song kicks off with a wicked-sounding guitar riff. ‘I don’t know where I am, I don’t know how to move,’ Giordano sings, as the track rolls into an old school breakdown section that many a metal band would be proud of.
A promising sign of things to come, the track ensures that Hypergear will definitely remain on indieBerlin’s radar for 2019. Watch out for the final piece in the suite dropping soon.
