Luxembourg and Birthday Boy – Shards of Dystopian Noise over a Trickyesque Beat

by | indieBerlin

Luxembourg give us Birthday Boy, their brand new single, the kind of dense and brooding electro track we’ve come to expect from the Sydney, Australia trio who have decided to make Berlin their home.

The track starts off with a shaker whittling away at our consciousness, accompanied by delicate synth stabs repeating and slowly building layer by layer into something larger and a little more dangerous, with the singer repeating “Get the fuck out of my house” over and over while shards of dystopian noise sheath through the soundscape at odd angles, leaving us unsettled and groping, with the claustrophobic feel building through a repetitive Trickyesque beat, pulling us in and repelling us in almost equal measures.

Until through the middle of everything comes a white light monotone thrusting synth sound like someone hit the emergency button: and the words “slow me down” keep me wondering if she’s being pulled in or pushed away, and which one it is she’s insisting on.

Luxembourg – a dark electronic trio inspired by Massive Attack and Moderat

In 2014, Irish vocalist Sarah O’Connell and Australian synth player Matthew Chaplin teamed up with Russian producer Victor Braguine to form Luxembourg – a dark electronic trio inspired by Massive Attack and Moderat. In the beginning, the trio released some productions supported by Sydney radio legends ‘FBi Radio’, before moving to Berlin to continue their work on a full length debut album.
