The magnificent Nneka is back with her fifth album My Fairy Tales, the first since her 2012 release Soul is Heavy. But this time she did it completely her way. Having released it through her own record label she considers it more her own independent project than an album. It is composed of nine tracks with a strong message of what is happening in Africa at the moment, especially in Nigeria.

She is aware that as an artist she has a responsibility and the power to use her voice to help people, to raise awareness and to make a change. “The project” is something that she had to do. It is might not be radio-friendly – as she expressed to the Magazine Young Voices – but as an artist’s impulse that has to get out “like writing a book or painting a picture and knowing that people will appreciate it, regardless of how well it does commercially”. That’s why Nneka ìs so amazing and her music so deep. If music is a message, is she definitely a messenger.

Intrigued to listen to her story? You are cordialy invited to see Nneka live in the Kesselhaus in the Kulturbrauerei on Thursday where she is going to present My Fairy Tales, the album that is intended to be also “an introduction to the next record that is coming out later this year“.
