Preview: Snail Mail at Lido

by | indieBerlin

Fans of songs about heartache are in for a treat as much hyped indie prodigy Snail Mail brings her brand of lo-fi to Lido.

Snail Mail, the musical moniker of singer-songwriter Linsey Jordan, has been garnering critical praise and evangelical indie fans since 2016’s debut E.P. ‘Habit’. Three years later, now a positively ancient 19 years old, she is touring last year’s full length album ‘Lush’. Having sold out Badehaus last year on what was her first international headline tour, Snail Mail returns a more battle-heartened prospect. The show at Lido will be an excellent chance to catch this rising name in action. And, best of all, we are giving away two tickets to one lucky raffle winner!

Talked about alongside genre heavyweights such as Phoebe Bridgers, Snail Mail’s lyrics are as raw as they are relatable. Her ability to take feelings of loss, heartache and isolation and spin these into often upbeat anthems is striking. Musical comparisons can be made in particular to Waxahatchee though the best songs are those in which a more creative and original direction is taken. The guitar work and use of alternative tunings alongside the stubbornly lo-fi approach to recording taken on both ‘Habit’ and ‘Lush’ is a wickedly appealing cocktail. The vocals are powerful – though not overbearing – while the lyrics have a real poignancy without ever becoming melodramatic.

Snail Mail is an artist that’s been many years in the making, having gigged around Baltimore for years before breaking through. However, in the year following the release of ‘Lush’, she seems to have grown into her own. Right now feels a great time to catch her and her touring band live in action. Lido should provide an elegant backdrop against which Snail Mail can exhibit her prodigious talent. What’s more, you can enter our raffle draw in order to win two tickets to the show today!

Snail Mail plays at Lido on 11th June. For a chance to win a pair of tickets, send an email to win(at)indieberlin.de.
