The Weird Kids On The Block: indieBerlin Interview with The DeLorean Rocket Experience

by | indieBerlin

Ever wondered what it would sound like if Jonathan Richman and Thurston Moore moved to Hawaii and opened a tiki bar? Listen to The DeLorean Rocket Experience and find out.

indieBerlin: How did you come up with the name The DeLorean Rocket Experience?

The DeLorean Rocket Experience: We were hanging out in Martin’s apartment and we decided to start a band and started thinking about names initially picking The DeLoreans, as a reference to the movie “Back to the Future” but then found out it was taken so we expanded to our current name.

indieBerlin: How does the songwriting process work for your band?

Domenica: Sometimes me and Martin write songs beforehand and work on them with our guitars and then add the drums later or we just come up with something awesome in the rehearsal room.

indieBerlin: If you had to describe your music to a deaf person, what would you say?

The DeLorean Rocket Experience: We wouldn’t say anything because they wouldn’t hear us but we would draw a fun day on the beach.

indieBerlin: If your music was a movie, which genre would it be in?

Martin: It would be in any Quentin Tarantino movie.

indieBerlin: Tell us a secret about yourself.

The DeLorean Rocket Experience: Even though we define ourselves as a surf rock band… None of us really owns a surf board.

indieBerlin: Where do you get your inspiration from?

Domenica: From people we talk to on the streets, traveling and popular culture such as Star Wars and Pokemon.

indieBerlin: What was your biggest stage fuck-up?

Marco: During the first 10 seconds of one of our show my drumstick got caught in the crash and flew out of my hands. Luckily enough I was able to pick it back up soon after.

indieBerlin: What was the nicest compliment you ever got?

Martin: My mum said we looked pretty cute on stage with our little Hawaiian shirts.

indieBerlin: How do you feel about covering a song?

The DeLorean Rocket Experience: We would happily cover most songs but always with a sprinkle of surf.

indieBerlin: How do you think the audience in Berlin is different to the audience in Palma de Mallorca?

Martin: In Berlin they have longer hair.
