Win Tickets to Roy Ayers at Gretchen, Nov. 5th!

by | indieBerlin

Legendary jazz vibraphonist Roy Ayers and his band will perform live at Gretchen on Monday, Nov. 5th.

At 77 years old, Ayers plays with an unprecedented passion and positivity, expressing a deep love for life and a genuine gratitude for an epic career in music –a career which includes an unbelievable 33 studio albums. Often credited as the most sampled musician by hip-hop producers, Ayers music has been a pioneering force in a plethora of genres, from jazz, funk and soul to disco and house.

Growing up in Los Angeles in the home of a trombone player (his father) and a piano teacher (his mother), Ayers started playing instruments and singing at an early age. He released his first record at the age of 23 in 1963 with Atlantic, and would go on to hold a long tenure at Polydor Records, releasing album after album under his Roy Ayers Ubiquity moniker.

Classics like ‘‘Everybody Loves the Sunshine”, “Liquid Love” and ”Searchin”’ are some of his main claims to fame, yet most would be surprised to learn just how much of his music they’ve actually heard –Tyler the Creator sampled a Ayers’ tune in his last album.

The positive vibes of truly inspiring, feel good music has got be the source of his incredible vitality

Ayers will arrive in Berlin after having played five back-to-back gigs in Australia earlier this month and three back-to-back shows in the UK this week. Don’t miss your chance to see him at Gretchen on Nov. 5th, or you’ll have to take a train to Hamburg on the 6th before he goes flying around Europe to wrap up his tour.
