Cigarettes after Sex-Tejano blue

Cigarettes After Sex has unveiled their upcoming album, titled “X’s,” set for release on July 12th. The lead single, “Tejano Blue” is now available on all platforms.

Formed in 2008, Cigarettes After Sex is an American pop band led by Greg Gonzalez.

Greg Gonzalez‘s voice is celebrated for its androgynous, sweet, and deeply sentimental quality. This unique vocal texture, along with his composition, makes their music universally adaptable, suitable for any occasion, wherever you are, whatever you are doing. A comment I once encountered perfectly captures their effect: “This band makes me want to dance with my own shadow.” Couldn’t be more true!

At times, it’s hard to pinpoint whether it’s the vocals, the melody, or the lyrics that draw us in so deeply. Without the too much flowery and superfluous techniques, Cigarettes After Sex connect with you through their music.

“Tejano Blue,” a tribte to the music of bandleader Greg Gonzalez’s early years in Texas. Gonzalez explains: “I grew up in El Paso & Tejano music is huge there. You could go to a lot of the bars in the city & hear artists like Selena, Los Ángeles Azules & La Mafia playing over the speakers. It was in the atmosphere around me back then, but I always rejected it & gravitated towards anything else I was attracted to really.

“Years later when I was living in New York City I finally started listening to Selena’s ‘Como La Flor’ at the same time that I was also listening to a lot of Cocteau Twins. I had the idea then to try to combine both of their sounds somehow, which felt a bit strange, but also felt like it was coming from a genuine place of rediscovering & finally connecting with the music that I heard around me in my youth.”
