As we enter the final hurdles of 2022, the relentless influx of excellent new music doesn’t seem to be letting up! Here are our Top 10 tracks to be released in October:

Young Fathers – I Saw

Scottish experimental hip-hop trio Young Father’s latest single, “I Saw,” is a remarkable number built around a cavalier groove, with a menacing, distorted bassline and drums, beautifully accompanying the band’s lyrical description of a toxic relationship between rulers and the ruled.

King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard – Iron Lung

Australian psychedelic-rock legends King Gizzard And The Lizard Wizard have shared their new nine-minute single “Iron Lung.” Continuing their exploratory ethos, the song revolves around mostly a single chord change, with tootling flute lines, thick, distorted guitar, plunging tom-tom drum hits, and a big amount of improvisation. Lengthy songs and King Gizzard name a better duo.

Unknown Mortal Orchestra – I Killed Captain Cook

New Zealand rock band Unknown Mortal Orchestra’s first single of 2022, “I Killed Captain Cook,” is a striped-back acoustic track with faint psych flickers, which tells the unique story of a Hawaiian kid who killed British explorer Captain James Cook.

Matt Maltese – Mother

London-based singer-songwriter Matt Maltese has released a new single in the somber ‘Mother,’ which contemplates how the breakup process can affect more than just those in the relationship. Warm, luxurious, and with an exquisite melody, this piano-led song is the perfect antidote for the looming winter nights.

Teleman – Short Life

“Short Life” is a danceable and catchy gem by London indie-rockers Teleman, which examines life’s momentary nature, and the need to make every moment count. The first single from their upcoming fourth studio album, Good Time / Hard Time.

GOAT – Do The Dance

Swedish alternative and experimental fusion music group Goat’s newest track, “Do The Dance,” is a rhythmic voyage with its grandiose drum beat, insistent groove, electrifying bass, and chanted vocals. A welcome return for masked psychedelic aficionados.

Benny Sings – The Only One

“The Only One” is the latest single by Dutch singer-songwriter Benny Sings. Loaded with his signature joyous soul-pop style, the song tells the story of a man losing touch with reality and obsessing over a woman.

Alvvays – After The Earthquake

“After The Earthquake” is the jangly and vivacious latest single from Canadian indie darling Alvvays. Inspired by Haruki Murakami’s After the Quake, it features the band’s signature soaring guitars. The band described the track as a “rapid-fire recital of drive-thru breakdown, tectonic breakup, and boyfriend in a coma brake failure.”

Longheads – One Step Further

Norfolk psych-rockers Longheads have released “One Step Further, ” the latest single from their forthcoming EP Mars Doesn’t Feel Like Home Anymore. The mind-altering track enchants with its spiraling, jazz-heavy improvisation and psychedelic lo-fi vocals, which reverberate stunningly between the spacey composition of powerful drums and kraut, psychedelic guitar solos.

Dry Cleaning – No Decent Shoes for Rain

London post-punk favorites Dry Cleaning have shared a new single, “No Decent Shoes For Rain,” from their awesome latest album, Stumpwork. Inspired by grief, the six-minute track is filled with dark humourous lyrics and raucous but rhythmic guitars. 2022 is Dry Cleaning year, and they are ending it with a bang!
